Overview

Online File Transfer is an easy-to-use Web interface. All you need is an Internet connection and a standard Web browser on your personal computer (PC) to send or receive files and retrieve information from the Online File Transfer repository. Online File Transfer gives you the benefit of HTTPS transfers using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol.

Description

Receiving a File

Download files from Online File Transfer. Use the selection criteria in Online File Transfer to filter the files you receive. The files that appear will match the characteristics you specify.

Sending a File

Upload files to Online File Transfer. You can send either ASCII or binary files. ASCII is the default.

Files Sent

Access the directory of files sent. The directory lists all the files that you sent under your User ID for the month.


Logging On  

Logging on to Online File Transfer is the first step necessary to send and receive files. You only have to log in once. You remain logged on until you log off, or until you are logged off due to inactivity. If you are logged off because of inactivity, you receive the message, "You are not logged on. Please log on before you try to send or receive files."

  1. From your browser, go to the URL provided by your Online File Transfer system Administrator. The following steps may be optional, depending on how your system is configured.
  2. From the Logon screen, type your User ID.  (UPPER CASE)
  3. Type your Password. (UPPER CASE)
  4. Click Logon


Changing a Password  

You can change your password for Online File Transfer at any time. Check with your company's Online File Transfer system Administrator for password requirements.

Use the following procedure to change your password.

1.      Log on using your current password.

2.      From the Logon screen, click Change Password.

3.      Type your current password in the Current Password text box.

4.      Type your new password in the New Password and Verify Password text boxes.

5.      Click Submit. A message will display indicating that your password was successfully changed.

If you receive a message stating that your password was not successfully changed, start again with step 1, or contact your company's Online File Transfer system Administrator.


Sending a File  

You can send a file in ASCII or binary format to Online File Transfer.
To send a file:

  1. Leave the Mailbox ID field blank, unless instructed otherwise by the SunTrust Data Transmission Group.
  2. Leave the Batch ID field blank, unless instructed otherwise by the SunTrust Data Transmission Group.
  3. Click BROWSE to find the file or type the File Name to be sent.
  4. Click Send. If you receive an error message, verify your information.

Warning: If you click on any button in the browser during the transfer, the transfer may terminate prematurely. To verify that a file was received intact at the server, view the Files Sent directory.



Receiving a File  

You can download files from Online File Transfer to your file system.
To receive a file:

  1. Click Receive Files. An asterisk (*) will appear in the Mailbox ID.
  2. Click Submit.
  3. Follow the directions below for your browser.
    Because a transmission can change the status of a flag, refresh the directory after you receive a file.
Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser:
  1. Right-click on a selected file.
  2. Select Save Target As. The Save As dialog box opens.
  3. Modify the file name as needed and click Save.

Note: Left-click on a selected file to view the file. If the file is binary, the file may be unreadable.
Warning: If you are viewing a large file and click on any button in the browser, your file transfer may terminate.

NetScape Browser:
  1. Click on a selected file. The Save As dialog box opens.
  2. Modify the file name as needed and click Save.

Note: You can also right-click and select Save Link As to receive a file.



Files Sent   

To retrieve a directory of the files you've sent to Online File Transfer:

  1. Click Files Sent. An asterisk (*) will appear in the Mailbox ID.
  2. Click Submit.

The resulting list shows all files that you've sent to Online File Transfer and represents files that have been processed and passed to the appropriate application. If you've sent a file and it doesn't show up on this list within 5 -10 minutes, an error may have occurred. Contact SunTrust Data Transmission Group before resending any data.

Viewing the Directory Window
The directory shows the files that are located on the server, based on your viewing authority. Below is an example of a directory.

This list represents all files that have been sent for the current calendar month. At the end of the month, all processed files except for the previous seven (7) days will be purged.


Field Definitions  

All field definitions are listed in alphabetical order.

Batch ID
Type the Batch ID for the file to access. All files that match the requested Batch ID are displayed. If a Batch ID is specified, the Batch Number is ignored. On the Directory page, up to 64 characters of the Batch ID are displayed in the Description column.

Batch Number
Type the Batch Number for the file to access. If a Batch Number is specified, the Batch ID is ignored. On the directory page, the column Batch Number indicates each individual file's Batch Number.

Current Password
The password you currently use to log on to Online File Transfer.

File Name
Specifies the name of the source file to be sent. This name is used as the Batch ID unless a Batch ID is specified. Only one file is sent at a time.

Definition

Added (A)

The file was sent by you to Online File Transfer.

Collected (C)

The file was Collected from SunTrust's mainframe (outbound files to you).

Requestable (R)

The file is requestable.

Transmitted (T)

The file was transmitted to its associated application at SunTrust.


Mailbox ID
Specify a Mailbox ID to send or receive files to or from the specified data repository. If this field is blank, your logon User ID is automatically assumed. On the Directory Contents page, the column Mailbox indicates the Mailbox ID to which the file belongs.

New Password
The new password you want to use to log on to Online File Transfer.

Password
Type the password associated with your User ID.

Size
On the Directory page, the column heading Size indicates the size of the file in bytes.

User ID
Type the User ID assigned by your Online File Transfer system Administrator.

Verify Password
The new password you want to use to log on to Online File Transfer. This must be the same as New Password.
